ETIAS for American Citizens
Americans to apply for EU travel permits from 2023
US citizens will need to apply for ETIAS prior to traveling to Europe in order to be allowed to enter the territory by May 2023.
ETIAS visa waiver means the European Travel Information and Authorization System, which will require U.S. passport holders to apply online for a European Travel Permit before entering the territory, similar to the ESTA that the United States uses.
This process allows EU authorities to pre-screen all travelers and confirm their status before allowing them to enter or even board a flight to Europe, thereby improving security measures across Europe.
Travelers from the US will be required to pay an amount of €7 when applying for ETIAS. The application process is estimated to take around 10 minutes. ETIAS can be issued for three years and can be used to enter and stay in Europe for 90 days within a six month period.
